An old boat propeller. Pulled from Stewart Island waters. Left to rest in a garden. And slowly, quietly, transformed.

This propeller once cut through the swells of Foveaux Strait — powering boats, moving people and cargo across one of the roughest stretches of water in the Southern Hemisphere. Then the sea took it back. Years underwater. Marine life colonising every surface, building delicate grey structures across the metal in intricate, unhurried patterns.

The ocean is a patient artist.

What you see here is the result of that patience — the meeting point of industry and nature, of what we make and what the sea makes of it. The propeller's original purpose is still legible in its form. But its surface now belongs entirely to the sea. Encrusted, softened, made strange and beautiful by time and salt water.

There is something deeply satisfying about this kind of transformation. The way nature moves into the spaces we leave behind. The way rust and marine growth become their own kind of artistry. The way a working object becomes, eventually, a work of art.
