This is Plumosa — found on the shores of Stewart Island/Rakiura, where the southern sea grows its most delicate work. The fronds branch and re-branch into something so fine it seems impossible that the ocean could produce it without destroying it first.

Washed up by the Easterly — driven in on the swell that tests every mooring at Halfmoon Bay, that carves the foreshore, that shakes the foundations and then, when it's done, leaves the most extraordinary things behind on the sand.

Pressed and presented against white, every branching detail is visible. The architecture of it. The patience of it. A thing that grew in cold, moving water and arrived here, intact, as if it had been waiting to be seen properly all along.
