Delicate. Precise. A specimen so perfectly formed it could have been drawn by hand.
This is Affinis — found on the shores of Stewart Island/Rakiura, where the cold southern sea produces some of the most intricate marine flora in New Zealand. Pressed and presented against white, the full structure of the specimen is revealed: every branch, every frond, every point where the plant made a decision about which direction to grow.
Washed up by the Easterly — driven in on the swell that tests every mooring at Halfmoon Bay, that carves the foreshore, that shakes the foundations and then, when it's done, leaves the most extraordinary things behind on the sand.
In the manner of the great botanical illustrators, this piece asks you to look properly. Not to glance, but to see. The closer you look, the more there is.
Fits beautifully above a desk, beside a bookshelf, or anchoring a quiet corner that deserves something real.
