Durvillaea antarctica — bull kelp — is one of the most ancient and powerful organisms on the southern coastline. It anchors itself to rock with a grip that can withstand the full force of the Southern Ocean. It bends. It doesn't break. And when it washes ashore and the sun finds it at low tide, something strange happens — the surface blisters. Bubbles form beneath the skin. The kelp begins to transform, slowly and completely, into something that looks alien and ancient and utterly of this place.

This is that moment. Captured. Worn.

The design is all-over — front, back, sleeves. Blistered amber and gold and deep olive. Translucent pockets of light where the sun burned through. The texture of something real, something collected, something that existed on a specific rock on a specific beach on a specific island at the bottom of the world.

A note on the print
