This pot is one of those objects. Its origins are unknown. Its history, unrecorded. But what the artist saw in it was immediate.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe algae had already done its work — colonising every surface, tracing the contours of the metal in deep greens and browns. The pāua shells came next, placed by hand into the hollows and curves of the pot, their iridescent edges catching the light. Blues and purples against the rust and green. Each shell chosen. Each one positioned.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThis is where found object and artist meet. The island offered the pot, the sea offered the algae, the shore offered the pāua — and the artist brought them together into something that is entirely of this place and entirely intentional.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe sea completes things.
